Since September 2019 our trainers at The Wellbeing Academy have been working with 6 primary schools across Fife to roll out our solution focused Bright Thinking programme. With one member of staff in each school trained to facilitate the programme they then worked alongside a trainer to deliver the 6 week programme with a small group of children who were experiencing anxiety.
Inverkeithing Primary School has been the first to complete their pilot cohort. Through validated pre and post measures, all parents noticed a reduction in their child's anxiety, worry thoughts, negative thinking and an increase in positive behaviours and strategies (including self-regulation and sleep). Again, through validated pre and post measures, all children demonstrated a reduction in their anxiety, worry thoughts, negative thinking and an increase in positive behaviours and strategies (including self-regulation and sleep). Each week, the children were asked to score their week from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best their week could have been. The mean score for the cohort at the start of the programme was 3.4 which increased to 6.6 at the end of the programme. Half the children in the cohort showed a 6 point improvement in their score.
The Bright Thinking programme at Inverkeithing, has demonstrated a reduction in the children’s anxiety and an increase in their social and personal competence. The children have developed a range of strategies and skills to better manage their thinking and focus more on their available strengths, resources and capabilities. We look forward to the results and evaluations from the other participating schools in Fife.
Thank you to our trainer Rachel Eastop for her incredible work with The Resilience Doughnut in Scotland.
