This practical training is for individuals with a focus on child and adolescent resilience.​​​​ - Delivered as a pre-structured course and providing an advanced level of practical skills, knowledge and understanding. This training provides an in-depth and practical exploration of child and adolescent resilience, including the practical application of The Resilience Doughnut with individuals and groups, opportunities to reflect on your own practice and cascade your understanding .

Who is this training for?

  • This training is designed for individuals who work with children and adolescents within any setting.​

​What are the delivery options?

This training is delivered over Stage 1 and Stage 2. Successful completion of both stages is required.  

  • Stage 1 includes 14 hours of in-depth online training

    • Starts on the first Monday of every other month. See booking form below for next available training.

    • You will need to allocate 3 1/2 hours per week for each week of the course to demonstrate engagement with the group discussions, tasks, reading material and videos, as well as the completion of a reflective journal. 

    • ​Weekly deadlines are in place to keep you on track throughout the course. 

    • You can book one or more places online.

  • Stage 2 includes one day of face-to-face training​.

    • Delivered in Manchester on scheduled dates. See booking form below for available dates.

    • Available in-house for a minimum of 4 participants.

What's included?

In addition to 14 hours of online training and 1 day face-to-face, this training also includes:

  • Accreditation through the Australian Psychology Society and the NSW Education Standards Authority.

  • A large Resilience Doughnut floor model and carry bag.

  • Lyn Worsley's book The Resilience Doughnut - The Secret of Strong Kids.​

  • Access to additional online resources, including session plans and worksheets to support your delivery.

Stage 1

14 Hours Online

​During Stage 1 you will:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of resilience in children and adolescents across a range of settings.

  • be introduced to strengths-based work with children and adolescents.

  • Learn about the Australian and international resilience research which is influencing current strengths-based practice.

  • Learn how to build the emotional resilience of children and adolescents, through The Resilience Doughnut.

  • Learn how to use The Resilience Doughnut with children and adolescents through one-to-one, small group and whole class sessions.

  • Learn how to lead the delivery of one-to-one and group sessions with parents.​

  • Learn strategies for enhancing a more optimistic thinking style in children and adolescents, and nurturing their abilities for moral thinking and perspective taking.

  • Have the opportunity to interact with The Resilience Doughnut resources and to practice applying the model.

Stage 2

1 Day face-to-Face

​​During Stage 2 you will:

  • Have the opportunity to discuss and consolidate learning and experiences from Stage 1.

  • Have the opportunity to practice using The Reilience Doughnut with other participants.

  • Have the opportunity to interact with The Resilience Doughnut resources and to practice applying the model.

  • Learn further practical ideas for facilitating The Resilience Doughnut with children and adolescents.

Please Note

This is not a train-the-trainer course. This training allows you to use The Resilience Doughnut with children and adolescents within your own organisation or practice, along with providing an in-depth understanding of resilience, which will inform your practice. However, facilitators, are not permitted to:

  • Train others, including those within their own organisation or practice, to deliver one-to-one or group sessions using The Resilience Doughnut.

  • Pass on the resources to anyone else, including those within their own organisation or practice, for the purpose of enabling them to deliver one-to-one or group sessions using The Resilience Doughnut.

  • Use The Resilience Doughnut in the public domain.
