Resilience is at the heart of pupil wellbeing, success and long term mental health, as they navigate their way through childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. With The Resilience Doughnut, you can build the resilience of your pupils and staff so they can connect, grow and flourish within a positive school community.

Resilience is not a latent quality inside an individual child or adolescent, or a quality of a family, school or community. It is instead a process that involves multiple systems working together to help children and adolescents thrive when they are experiencing adversity or transitions. When building resilience we need an understanding of the things that help all children, adolescents and adults cope better, like relationships, a powerful identity, a sense of belonging, agency, meaning, purpose, achievement and social justice, all of which are embedded within The Resilience Doughnut. A resilience-building response involves multiple systems and is attuned to the cultural and contextual differences found among the individuals, the school and wider community to which they are part. - This is what we help you to do.

The Resilience Doughnut provides a practical research-validated tool for schools and colleges which can be used on a class, year group or whole school, basis, enabling all pupils to better manage the inevitable ups and downs of life and with individuals and small groups on a targeted basis to build capacity for resilience for those currently experiencing a challenge, adversity or transition.

The Resilience Doughnut also provides a framework for schools and colleges to establish, build and strengthen a positive school climate, which involves every pupil, member of staff and parent in their interactions each day. Fostering resilience at an individual, class and whole-school level has the potential to build schools in which the pupils have the capacity to grow and flourish within a positive school community.

Starting University - A Plan for Resilience

Moving into higher education is an exciting time for students as they embark on a new stage in their life. However, with an average 10% drop-out rate, we know that, for a variety of reasons, some students feel unable or unwilling to continue in higher education. Alongside this, we have seen a reduction in mental health among students over the past decade. We know that the universities and colleges have a significant role to play in providing an environment in which students flourish, however, these is still much individuals can do before, during and after the transition to build resilience. As with any transition, individuals experience loss of resources such as friends, family, work, college and their community. The loss of these external supportive factors, even temporarily, can have a significant impact on an individual's emotional resilience and long term mental health. This workshop provides an opportunity for those about to start higher education to create an action plan to facilitate their transition to university. By providing strategies to help them with life's challenges and times of change, you enable them to survive and thrive.

Student Resilience - From Surviving to Thriving

Resilience is at the heart of student wellbeing, success and long term mental health, as they navigate their way through higher education. By providing strategies to help students with life's challenges and times of change, you enable them to survive and thrive. Through the Resilience Doughnut, this practical workshop provides the opportunity for students to understand what helps them cope, thrive and flourish during the life's inevitable ups and downs. All workshops are tailored to age and life stage of the participants as well as the context of their setting. There is also the opportunity for a highly tailored workshop for smaller groups, experiencing one or more specific challenges or life transitions

International Student Resilience - From Surviving to Thriving

This practical workshop provides an opportunity for international students to develop an understanding and practical strategies which will better enable them to cope, thrive and flourish through the emotional challenges of the international move. International students have many advantages and unique talents to offer the world, however, there are downsides associated with having to say goodbye to friends, family, community and college. The loss of these external supportive factors, even temporarily, can have a significant impact on an individual's emotional resilience and long term mental health. Maintaining resilience is at the core of wellbeing and success. Aside from improved life satisfaction and happiness levels, it helps students function effectively. Resilient students are more confident and are more likely to settle into university life.

Trainee Teacher Resilience - From Surviving to Thriving

We don't just want our trainee teachers to survive their journey to QTS - we want them to thrive! This practical workshop is an opportunity for trainee teachers to learn and apply strategies, centred on The Resilience Doughnut to improve their own resilience in all aspects of their life, including at university and on placement, as they start out on their teaching career. Participants also explore the common features of flourishing teachers within positive workplaces. This workshop is tailored to meet the specific needs of trainee teachers, taking into account the transitions and challenges that they are currently facing. It is engaging, practical and based on what works!
